Dear friends,
It has been a great joy to begin hosting a nearly full schedule of silent retreats again this year. COVID-19 continues to cause some disruptions, and we are still taking precautions to ensure the safety of our guests and staff, but we are busy hosting day and weekend retreats again.
Dayspring has been a place dedicated to silent retreat since the 1950s. To come and sit quietly in the breeze on the front porch of the Lodge, to eat a simple meal together in silence, to slowly walk the paths in the meadows or forest, is a timeless gift. Our lives are full of responsibilities and distractions, but when we make time to “Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while,” (Mark 6:31) we connect more deeply with the Holy One.
One dimension of silent retreat that we give thanks for is the deep connection diverse groups of people feel on retreat together. In this time marked by division and conflict, to come together in spiritual community is a great balm. Together we accept the invitation to “Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). By being still – being quiet, being present – we open ourselves to experience the divine presence in ever-new ways.
These are challenging times economically, but we invite you to consider making a donation that is right for you to support this vital ministry. Your generosity makes it possible for us to keep retreats at Dayspring reasonably affordable so that that we can welcome all who hunger for silence and solitude in community.
With deep gratitude,
Nat Reid on behalf of the Retreat Mission Group (July 2021)
